Scout Public Relations Badge
5th November 2011
Last night Scouts were very lucky to be joined by Asst. Regional Commissioner (Communications) Gavin Holt to work on their Public Relations activity badge. Scouts looked at different ways to "Shout about Scouting", by writing a newspaper report about a recent scouting event and creating a short presentation to inform Beavers & Cubs about what goes on at the Scout section. Read on to see some of the Scouts PR work.
A huge thank you to Gavin for all his help on the night!
The Final Task
To complete the badge scouts should create a poster that can be displayed in the local area "Shouting about Scouting". The poster should be aimed at encouraging more young people to join the scouting adventure.
The poster can be:
- on paper and brought in to Scouts
- on computer and brought to Scouts on a memory stick/CD
- on computer and emailed to scouts@145thglasgowscouts.org.uk
Even if you weren't there last night, you can still gain the badge by completing your poster.
"No poster - no badge" Gavin Holt ARC (Communications)
We would love to be able to give out as many PR badges as possible at the AGM (15th November), which means that posters should be retuned to scouts as soon as possible.
Completed posters will be displayed around the hall at the AGM and the best posters will also go up on our website.
Scout Newspaper Reports
Last weekend my scout group and I participated in a 2 day camp to Lochearnhead. We encountered many challenges, such as team working activities, knot tying and doing a walk. Scouts is about learning outdoor skills, tackling challenges in teams and solo and meeting new people. Lewis, who participated in this event, said "my favourite bit was the wide game!"

Things we did at Lochearnhead:
- cycling - "we learnt how to pump with our knee"
- promise badge
- walk
- wide games - "beast", "amazing"
- tidying dorms - "boring"
- camp fire - singing
- pioneering - made catapult for water balloons
- team skills - toxic can, stand on a create

Lochearnhead - Cycling Badge
On our recent camp to Lochearnhead we learned how to service a bike by pumping up a tyre, repairing a puncture, fixing the breaks, changing the saddle and oiling the chain. We also had a chance to cycle a slalom course. It was quality WOOP!

When we went to Lochearnhead we did a badge on bike work, played a wide game that was really fun, we also did a team building exercise.
When we went to Switzerland it was fun because we did lots of activities and had lots of opportunities. We did hiking, tobogganing and much more.
